There Is A Grinding Noise
If you are hearing a grinding noise, you need to recognize this to be a sign that you need to immediately have your BMW brakes replaced. The grinding noise is a direct result of metal pushing against metal in order to slow the vehicle down. This could be happening because you have driven your vehicle for a while after you should have already had the brake pads changed. Eventually, the brake pads wear down and then completely disappear. You are left with the metal bracket that held the pad, and that is then pushing against the rotors when you are attempting to slow down or stop the vehicle.
The Brake Pedal Must Go Further To The Floor

You now have a much further distance between the pad and the rotor, which is why you have to push the brake pedal down further.
